University of Aberdeen General information about the University of Aberdeen, which, via Professor Ian Alexander is our main collaborator on the PROBECO project.

The Northern Studies Centre The Northern Studies Centre (NSC) brings together ecologists, social anthropologists and environmental scientists, all actively involved in research in Scotland, the sub-Arctic and the High Arctic. NSC promotes the development of new and exciting interdisciplinary research projects spanning the natural and social sciences, facilitating a holistic approach to the study of the environment and people in northern areas.

Biodiversity: Taxonomy, genetics and ecology of sub-arctic willow scrub - a related collaborative, multi-disciplinary project which also addresses inter-relationships of biodiversity, of an important group species of conservation significance.

Soil Health Initiative
The University of Aberdeen & The Macaulay Land Use Research Institute have made a £0.85 m commitment to establish a major molecular biology-based research initiative in soil health. The ultimate goal is to improve environmental quality through analysis, monitoring and manipulation of the functioning and health of soils.
