Sub catchmentGeneral characteristics of the catchment

The main stream, the Allt a' Mharcaidh, drains an area of approximately 10 km2 into the River Feshie, a major tributary to the River Spey. The catchment rises from 325m at the stream gauging station to 1111 m at the summit of Sgoran Dubh Mor (NH 905002).

The catchment is essentially a horseshoe-shaped hanging valley consisting of three distinct geomorphological regions;

  1. the valley floor,
  2. the valley sides,
  3. the upper summit plateau.
