Furthering Research

The coast and marine environment is subject to increasing pressure from resource use and competition for space in addition to the threats from climate change, sea level rise and flooding. Our research aims to protect resources and mitigate against these impacts.

Building Partnerships

Much of our research is in collaboration with partnerships across the UK and Internationally. We believe pooling resources and knowledge is the most effective way of meeting common aims and learning from others.

Working with Communities

We place great emphasis on working closely with communities; harnessing local knowledge, and facilitating local people to become involved in decision making and managing their environment.

Delivering Education and Awareness

The two-way process of knowledge exchange is a fundamental part of our research. We aim to put information across in accessible formats including visualisations, presentations, reports, seminars and newsletters.

The Macaulay Land Use Research Institute has a wealth of experience and knowledge in;

  • Land use
  • Monitoring
  • Coast planning
  • Ecosystem approach
  • Climate change and flooding
  • Habitat and species surveys
  • Geomorphology
  • Spatial mapping and visualisation
  • Socio-economics
  • Analytical services
  • Contaminated land
