Project Summary

EU Water Framework Directive (WFD) mandates Member States to develop river basin management plans for each river basin district. To achieve this the responsible authorities need tools to assess alternative management options. The objective of BMW project is to establish a set of criteria (socio-economic, bio-geo-chemical and systems analytical criteria) to assess the appropriateness of integrated models for the use in the implementation of WFD.

SERP is conducting a cost effectiveness analysis of management options to provide the socio-economic input to the benchmark criteria. The main products of the study will be a set of criteria and guidelines that can be used to assess the cost-effectiveness of integrated river basin management models in the EU.
