SOILS AND INDICATORS OF SUSTAINABILITY - ACID RAIN

Acid rain is an international problem largely brought
about through the emissions of sulphur and nitrogen
to the atmosphere. To assess the potential impact and
sensitivity of Scotland to acidification pressures we have produced a critical load map.

The map shows a five fold classification of the different abilities of soils to buffer any incoming acidity, with black having the greatest sensitivity.
