Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungal dispersal by subterranean insects

Amanda Currie, Alan Gange, Philip Murray

Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi sporulate in soil and roots, and it is likely that subterranean invertebrates disperse their spores. Earthworms, chafer grubs and leatherjackets, sampled from pasture grassland, were tested for spore dispersal. Viability of spores from gut and faecal contents was examined.
