Understanding Biodiversity themeOur landscapes have already been influenced by thousands of years of human activity, but in recent decades the pace of change has accelerated dramatically thanks to the demands of modern society.  The current threats to biodiversity include :

  • climate change
  • introduction and spread of invasive non-native species
  • changes in land management particularly those resulting in destruction of natural habitats.

If society is not to inadvertently destroy our natural heritage, it is essential to understand the detailed processes that govern the interactions between different species, as well as the effects of choices that people make in their everyday lives.
