Job Description for HYDROLOGIST

We are seeking a hydrologist with experience of analysing transport processes to contribute to multi-disciplinary research on issues concerning the management of water resources in catchments. Global changes in climate, land use, food and energy production are leading to changes in the hydrological cycle and in linked biogeochemical cycles necessitating better understanding of systems in order to inform appropriate management strategies and protection of future water resources. This post will require background knowledge to these issues and the desire to provide effective solutions to ‘real world’ problems.

The ideal candidate must possess a PhD in Hydrology or other related subject, or equivalent commercial experience, and bring a strong understanding of hydrological processes at catchment scales including runoff generation, flooding mechanisms and tracing sources of water. In addition, understanding of the relationships between hydrology and water quality would be extremely valuable. The post will require the linking of field based monitoring and experimentation with computer modelling techniques and experience in each of these areas, together with a strong numerical background, would be advantageous.

Starting salary within the range £26,610 - £29,566. per annum with excellent employee benefits.
