Project Summary
This project was based upon the consultation with stakeholders, and by employing the sequential application of correlation and factor analysis of the results of the survey, and in conjunction with concourse and discourse analysis, it resulted in the typologies of views about landscape changes that prevail in a given situation. By employing of this technique, the research contributed to the conceptualising of stakeholder perspectives concerning forest policy changes both in Scotland and beyond. It provided additional evidence for understanding of the prospects of land-cover and land use development in several countries in Europe, and with a particular focus on the expansion of woodlands in combination with the other important components in rural landscapes. The results contributed to better understanding of the areas of consensus and conflict between people, regarding the key directions of forestry development and of land use changes.
Our work was part of the project Visualization Tools for Public Participation in the Management of Landscape Changes (Visulands) funded by the EC under the 6th Framework Programme and led by Professor David Miller (MLURI). The project started in November 2002 and ended 31 December 2005. It was part of a larger project on Visualisation tools for participation in the management of landscape change.
