Tree establishment on heather moorland

In light of issues relating to understanding the impact of climate change on our upland environment, and environmental sustainability, we have set up a long term experiment to investigate the effects of regenerating native woodlands on heather moorland soil carbon dynamics.

Native tree planted on heather moorland at Invercauld estate

At the Invercauld Estate, native trees have been planted on heather moorland. It is part of a three location site experiment to investigate the main drivers of change; tree establishment and grazing (MOORCO). The other two sites are at Glensaugh and Ballogie.
