Welcome to the "Dirt Doctor's" website
Starting in 2007, the Institute has been highlighting how soils play a crucial role in almost every aspect of our lives. A series of public events are championing the importance of this under-rated resource for our food, fuel, wildlife, water – even our climate – but also warn us of the potentially irreversible damage if we continue to take soil for granted.
Below you will find a selection of material from our soil exhibits.
- "the Dirt Doctor will see you now..." (1.6MB pdf)
- "Did you know... (eyechart)" (30KB pdf)
- "doing your dirty work..." (0.4MB)
- Soil booklet ( 0.3MB)
- "The little book..." (1.2MB)
Soil Health Profiles
Pdf version of cartoon soil profiles (3.5 MB).
Take a look at the Pedologist’s (soil doctor) reports on the soil characteristics for "Claude", "Heather", "Pete", "Rusty" and "Sandy".
We also have a page with more educational material on, for example, the Machair, and Scotland's soil maps.
