Within the Institute, our research staff are administratively divided into five science areas: Catchment Management, Ecology, Integrated Land Use Systems, Socio-Economic Research and Soils.
Staff in our Analytical Group support the scientific research programmes as well as providing specialist commercial analytical services.
The Institute's work as a whole is supported by staff in Business Development, Communications and Outreach, Finance, HR and Training Development, Library and Information Services and Technical Services which make up our Administrative Group as well as by staff in Information Technology Services.
Science Groups
The Catchment Management Group works to address the ways that land use can affect water resources and their quality.
Staff within the Ecology Group undertake research on the conservation, enhancement and management of biodiversity.
The ILUS Group aims to understand how social, economic and biophysical processes interact to influence socio-ecosystem function.
Social scientists within SERG undertake research on rural economics, governance and attitudes towards outside spaces.
The Soils Group comprises a wide range of scientific disciplines, reflecting the complexity and cross cutting nature of modern soil research.
Other Groups
The Administration Group provides a range of technical and support services to sustain and maintain the work of the Institute.
The Analytical Group supports our environmental research programmes as well as offering specialist commercial laboratory services.
The ITS group provides a comprehensive range of high quality and managed computing and communication facilities to the Institute.
