We are analysing the many social and economic issues involved in the implementation of the European Water Framework Directive and other legislation that strives to improve the quality of water.

To do this, we look at the implications of future policy changes and assess the cost effectivess of water management schemes.

Although based around Scotland, our research has much wider applications: our international studies look at ways to ensure water quality and protect public health, as well as assessing the implications of water shortages elsewhere in world.

Our scientists have worked in many countries to enhance the sustainable use of our most fundamental of resources.
